ADCC Trials + No-Gi Worlds 2025: This Is the Year No-Gi Fully Takes Over

Every few years, no-gi has a “moment.” 2025 isn’t a moment. It’s a hostile takeover.

Every few years, no-gi has a “moment.” 2025 isn’t a moment. It’s a hostile takeover.

If you’ve been following ADCC Trials, especially Asia & Oceania you already know. Jozef Chen going up a weight class and still styling on people wasn’t just impressive. It was symbolic.

This isn’t gi guys “trying no-gi.”
This is complete grapplers who don’t care what you’re wearing.

Trials Are a Different Animal

Anyone who’s done ADCC Trials knows this already, but let me say it plainly:

Trials are not tournaments. They’re survival events.

The matches are ugly. The pacing is weird. The rules reward aggression but punish hesitation. And mentally, it’s exhausting. You’re not just fighting opponents (lol) you’re fighting the format.

What stood out this year:

  • Relentless top pressure
  • Front headlock dominance
  • Fewer “clean” guard pulls
  • Way more scrambling into leg entanglements

And Reddit noticed. r/bjj has been full of:

  • “Why no-gi feels harder”
  • “Gi guys getting exposed”
  • “Is no-gi the future or just louder?”

The answer is yes.

IBJJF No-Gi Worlds: Vegas Chaos Incoming

No-Gi Worlds 2025 in Vegas is shaping up to be a bloodbath. Bigger brackets. More crossover athletes. More competitors who train no-gi full time instead of “twice a week for cardio.”

The technical level has jumped:

  • Guards are simpler but more aggressive
  • Passing chains are faster
  • Leg locks aren’t exotic anymore, they’re expected

What’s wild is how much wrestling literacy has increased. People understand underhooks, head position, mat returns. Five years ago that stuff felt optional. Now it’s survival.

Gym Culture Is Changing

I’m seeing fewer gyms treat no-gi as “fun day.”
More:

  • Dedicated no-gi curriculums
  • Wrestling classes baked into schedules
  • Coaches emphasizing grip fighting without fabric

And honestly? It makes everyone better. Gi guys too.

If you’re still avoiding no-gi because “it’s slippery,” you’re not protecting your jiu-jitsu. You’re hiding it.
